Speech Pathologists specialise in supporting communication and swallowing (eating and drinking). They play a vital role in enabling individuals to express themselves, understand others, and safely consume food and drink. Our speech pathologists aim to empower individuals to communicate confidently and live safely and independently by addressing their unique challenges in a compassionate and tailored way.
Paediatric Speech Pathology
Our experienced speech pathologists provide high-quality, family centred services for children with disabilities (e.g. Cerebral Palsy, Autism Spectrum Disorder), developmental delays, premature infants and medically complex children. The services we offer are tailored to each child/family’s needs to ensure individual goals are met.
The services we offer include:
- Paediatric feeding assessment and therapy: Breast feeding, bottle feeding, transition to solids, chewing and swallowing difficulties.
- Comprehensive alternative augmentative communication (AAC): Assessment and prescription to support children who do not use verbal communication. This is inclusive of speech generating devices, symbols, sign language, objects and gesture.
- Early language/communication intervention: For children who are not yet using words.
- Speech sound interventions: Speech sound delays, phonological delays, childhood apraxia of speech.
- Language therapy: Understanding what is said, using a variety of words, grammar and forming sentences.
- Coordinated Care: Lioaising with the child’s team, including paediatricians, allied health professionals and schools.
Adult Speech Pathology
Our committed adult speech pathologists focus on providing individualised, evidence-based interventions. We support people with disabilities (e.g. Cerebral Palsy), injuries (e.g. Traumatic Brain Injury) and neurodegenerative diagnoses (e.g. Motor Neuron Disease).
The services we offer include:
- Swallowing (dysphagia): Assessment, evaluation and intervention to reduce the risk of medical complications and increase enjoyment at mealtimes.
- Voice interventions: To increase voice loudness and quality, including LSVT Loud Therapy.
- Communication interventions: To improve speech precision, understanding of spoken language, word finding and sentence construction.
- Assessment and prescription of communication systems/devices (AAC): Including specialised assessments for technology using alternative access (e.g. eye gaze devices).
- Coordinated Care: Liasing with the person’s team (including specialists, support workers and allied health professionals).
